Interdisciplinary Center for Sound Communication

Research lines

1.
Computational Music. This is research into the use of digital systems for sound manipulation. This emerging line has an interdisciplinary character, as it links areas of scientific knowledge with areas of artistic activity. The focus of the study is to build interfaces capable of interacting with the sound complex, creating systems for sound synthesis and algorithmic composition. (Approved by the Department/Scientific Council in 1993).

2.
Composition, Analysis and Musical Education. Research focused on studying the links between Music and creative, production and educational activities. The approach is focused on the characterization of means of manipulating sound material, its use in educational projects, sound experiences, individual and collective creation. The line aims to study the means of production, whether mass media, crafts, the composer's studio or instrumental groups. In the field of musical analysis, the objective is to use traditional knowledge as a basis and develop new working tools that are capable of working in the field of contemporary music. (Approved by the Department/Scientific Council in 1992).
