Research lines
 
1.
  Course of Life. The specific interest of this line is to understand how gender marks different stages of life. (Approved by the Department/Scientific Council in 1994).
 
2.
  Dissemination of knowledge associated with gender issues. This line, central in terms of the objectives of the Center for Gender Studies - Pagu (to produce and disseminate knowledge linked to gender issues), involves the research necessary to hold events , seminars and publications. (Approved by the Department/Scientific Council in 1993).
 
3.
  Disciplinary perspectives and feminist theory. Studies about women and gender studies are relatively recent contributions, particularly in Brazil. The objective of this line is to discuss these theories facing conceptual and methodological impasses, particularly those raised by tensions between disciplinary perspectives and gender studies/feminist studies that operate between disciplines. (Approved by the Department/Scientific Council in 1998).

  History of Science. This line of research explores the relationships between gender and science through different perspectives: trajectories of women linked to different scientific fields, the feminine perception of science, the way in which characteristics considered feminine and masculine permeate scientific production. (Approved by the Department/Scientific Council in 1996).
 
5.
  Distribution of justice. The line focuses on issues associated with the distribution and consolidation of citizenship rights from a gender perspective. (Approved by the Department/Scientific Council in 2000).
 
6.
  Demography, Gender and Family. This line aims to understand, from a historical perspective, the transformations (changes and permanence) in families in Brazil. (Approved by the Department/Scientific Council in 1998).
 
7.
  Education. This line aims to produce knowledge in the educational field by working from a gender perspective on the dynamics of racial relations in the context of public education. (Approved by the Department/Scientific Council in 1994).
 
8.
  Sexuality. The line aims to understand the relationship between gender and sexuality from different empirical perspectives: heterosexualities, "alternative" sexualities, prostitution, sexual tourism, new forms of eroticism. (Approved by the Department/Scientific Council in 1999).
