Visiting Unicamp this Thursday morning (8/08), a delegation from the Chinese company Xamano Energy, a multinational from the Medvacca Group, led by president Wei Wang and executive director Claudia Wu, was received by rector Antonio José de Almeida Meirelles. Two new meetings should be scheduled with members of Unicamp's health, innovation and environment areas to advance possible joint work presented by the company at this first meeting.
The Medvacca Group already has an administrative office in the Unicamp Scientific and Technological Park and is known for its activities in the production of medicines. According to Professor Osvaldir Pereira Taranto, Executive Director of International Affairs, this Thursday's meeting was scheduled during the rector's visit to China last March, with the aim of preliminarily discussing issues related to research development.
In addition to energy proposals, Xamano executives spoke about the production of medicines for diabetes and cancer. “Since Unicamp is very interested in carrying out the energy transition, and Xamano Energy is a company that is very interested in developing research, there is the possibility of agreements”, said Taranto, who will be responsible for organizing the next meetings with representatives from Unicamp in the medical field, Inova and research in the area of green energy.
Xamano Energy, which belongs to the group, is a company focused especially on innovation in renewable energy and decarbonization, in addition to operating in the production of green ammonia, and which partners in projects with universities and Chinese high-tech industries.
Wang spoke during the meeting about the company's relationship with universities, which happens differently in China. Meirelles pointed out the difference in the legislation itself, remembering that Unicamp's focus is research and training, but that there is a movement towards bringing in different partners so that the transition between technology and product is increasingly faster.
“Today we have new possibilities to accelerate this connection within our limits”, said Meirelles. The University's relationship with industry takes place through the Innovation Agency – Inova, which operates on this frontier between research and industrial production, added the rector.
“We cannot guarantee the industrial process, because our role is research, in which we have great interest in collaborating,” said Taranto. Professors and advisors from the rectory Caio Costa Oliveira and Carlos Etulain also participated in the meeting.
In addition to the Technology Park in Campinas, Xamano Energy has administrative headquarters in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, São Paulo and Brasília.
