Unicamp Rectorate reaffirms commitment to democracy

Official note highlights the institution's historic performance in defense of the Democratic Rule of Law and repudiates acts investigated by the Federal Police

Federal Police Report No. 4546344/2024 indicates the participation of a professor from our teaching staff in antidemocratic activities aimed at abolishing the Democratic Rule of Law in our country, especially through the attempt to support the challenge to the result of the 2022 presidential elections. We deeply regret that a member of our community has apparently joined coordinated actions in order to disseminate false information about the electronic voting process.

Our University has a long tradition of fighting for democracy and aligning itself with democratic values, dating back to the 1970s. This struggle has materialized in the many battles we have fought, together with sectors of civil society, to regain, strengthen and expand democracy and to amplify its social justice content. This struggle has also been expressed through the work of great names in our faculty.

In this way, we reiterate our deep institutional commitment to the defense of the Democratic Rule of Law and we repudiate any and all attempts to resolve the dispute of ideas in society other than the sovereign expression of our people at the polls, in accordance with the rules established by the Electoral Court of our country.
