With 1.006 authors and 285 projects registered, a record number since 2011 – the year it was created –, the big winner of the 2024 Paepe Unicamp Award was the health sector, which took first and third place. The top prize went to the work carried out by a team of 23 professionals in the medical field, “Advances in stroke care: quality improvement, protocols and international certification”, which received the prize of R$26.429,04.

Second place went to the Executive Board area, with the project “Carreiras Unicamp: SAAS institutional tool and preliminary results”, which won R$17.619,36. And third place went to the health administration area: “Transformation of processes and increase of revenues: The impact of the implementation of Inovahc”, carried out by 12 people who were awarded the prize of R$8.809,68. The first three places received trophies from the hands of the general coordinator of Unicamp, Maria Luíza Moretti, and the rector Antonio José de Almeida Meirelles.

The awards ceremony took place on Monday morning (9), in the auditorium of the School of Medical Sciences (FCM), packed and in an atmosphere of great expectation before the announcement of the winners. Created 13 years ago to honor technical and administrative staff in the Teaching, Research and Extension Support Professionals (Paepe) career, the award aims to give visibility to the University's successful actions. The event was broadcast online by Unicamp's Press Channel.

Meirelles highlighted four aspects of the award: the ability to promote a moment of fellowship; the continuous improvement of Unicamp; collaboration between departments; and the idea of making the University look ahead to technological changes. “We have to seize opportunities. The award puts us in the perspective that we must persist on this path focused on benefiting the future. Everyone is a winner when they carry out activities like these.”

According to Moretti, “the award is an incentive for everyone to continue contributing to the development of the University.” In the words of the general coordinator, “people who work at Unicamp are also here to learn and innovate, putting their creative sense into practice.”

Greater participation

In total, 49 projects were awarded in the Local Award category, from which the ten final winners are chosen. The three finalists receive the top prize and the other seven receive an honorable mention. There was a significant increase in the number of entries in 2024 compared to 2023: from 239 works submitted last year, the number jumped to 285 in 2024, a total of 46 more projects. The number of authoring employees also increased: from 773 to 1.006 in the same period – 233 more participating employees.

The projects were divided into four areas: 88 from the health area (which, in turn, was divided into four committees: administrative, nursing, medical and technical and service); 105 teaching and research projects; 79 from administration; and 13 from interdisciplinary centers and nuclei. The 49 best projects from the units and agencies receive a trophy and the amount of R$8.809,68.

This year, the General Directorate of Human Resources (DGRH) innovated by appointing two presidents to the award's organizing committee: Jacques Gama, technical assistant of the Occupational Safety Division (DSTr), and Maria Fernanda Alonso Xavier, supervisor of the Call Center, both from DGRH. According to Xavier, 157 people were part of the 39 local committees; and another six were part of the general committee. In all, 221 members of Unicamp were involved in organizing the award.

The organizers highlighted the importance of institutional support and the trust of the DGRH director, Maria Aparecida Quina de Souza, and the deputy director, Everaldo Pinheiro. Gama also recalled that all projects are available in the Unicamp Digital Library, for visibility and replicability.
