The auditorium of the Convention Center was packed on Friday morning (13) to watch the presentation of Unicamp's institutional awards for the year 2024. In total, 74 professionals were awarded, in six categories: Academic Recognition Zeferino Vaz; Teaching Recognition for Dedication to Undergraduate Teaching; Proeec Award for University Extension; Academic Recognition for Researchers in the Research Career; Teaching Recognition for Dedication to Technical Secondary Education; and Student Recognition of Performance in their Technical Training from Unicamp Technical Colleges.
Established in 2013, the Zeferino Vaz Academic Award is a tribute to the founder and first rector of Unicamp. In the 2024 edition, the award honored 23 professors who excelled in their teaching, research and outreach activities throughout the year. The recipients received diplomas from the hands of the rector Antonio José de Almeida Meirelles and the general coordinator of the University, Professor Maria Luiza Moretti.
The Faculty Recognition Award for Dedication to Undergraduate Teaching was given to 24 professors who excelled in undergraduate teaching activities. The special committee that analyzes the merit of the candidates registered for the competition takes into account, among other criteria, the evaluation made by the student body.
The rector recalled that Unicamp has improved the mechanisms for recognizing the merit of its employees and mentioned the existence of other awards, such as those that include research support professionals, those who undertake scientific initiation, postgraduate students and graduates – former students of the University who have stood out in the job market, developing activities with a positive impact on society.
“And today, here, we have the great award ceremony, which begins at Unicamp with the story of Zeferino Vaz, but which evolves with the idea, precisely, of bringing together this great variety of activities that a higher education institution like ours carries out, whether in training professionals, in carrying out science and producing technology and in establishing an increasingly strong and intense relationship with society”, said Meirelles.
“Today is a very special day for our University,” said the general coordinator. “Special because this is the moment when science shines,” she added. “We are gathered here to reward and recognize those who reaffirm, through their work, their commitment to science and knowledge.”
