Unicamp will welcome new undergraduate and Interdisciplinary Higher Education Program (Profis) students on February 24. The 2025 Freshmen's program will include sports and cultural activities so that new students can learn about the different aspects of university life, the services offered to students, and the opportunities that can make a difference in their education. The activities will take place on the campuses of Barão Geraldo, in Campinas, and the School of Applied Sciences (FCA), in Limeira. New students from the School of Dentistry of Piracicaba (FOP) will be offered transportation to attend the event in Campinas. Freshmen's 2025 Freshmen's is promoted by the Office of the Vice-Rector for Undergraduate Studies (PRG) and the Office of the Vice-Rector for Outreach, Sports, and Culture (Proeec).

“I hope our students are aware that they are about to begin the best years of their lives,” said Ivan Toro, Vice-Rector of Undergraduate Studies, inviting new students to learn about and take advantage of all the scientific, cultural, social and sports opportunities that the University offers. “Unicamp is able to provide all the support that students need, from the point of view of education, social life and integration into the university environment.”

The 2025 Freshman Celebration will begin with a walk through the campuses organized by the Proeec Sports Department. In Campinas, the gathering will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Praça da Paz. On the planned route, students will pass through Monteiro Lobato Street and Sérgio Buarque de Holanda Street, skirting Praça do Ciclo Básico, until they reach the Multidisciplinary Sports Gymnasium (GMU). During the walk, students will be able to participate in sports activities and challenges organized by the athletic teams and student organizations, in addition to interacting with the Bloco do Circo, formed by artists from Cia. Oruã, Companhia do Bagaço, the duo Casca Trupe and Rede de Palhaças de Barão Geraldo.

Upon arrival at GMU, students will be welcomed by the excitement of PercUrsão, one of Unicamp's student drum groups. Also at the location, there will be an institutional presentation by the vice-rectors of Undergraduate Studies and Extension, Sports and Culture, Toro and Fernando Coelho, respectively, and the distribution of the newcomer kit, consisting of a reusable bag, a t-shirt, a mug and a cafeteria voucher, valid for lunch or dinner on the 24th at the university restaurants in Barão Geraldo, FCA or the Faculty of Technology (FT) in Limeira.

In Limeira, the walk will take place on the 25th, starting at 15:30 p.m., in the space between the FCA teaching buildings, and will feature music from Limeteria. In both cities, academic centers, collectives and student organizations will provide students with important information and tips about scholarships and projects in which they can participate. Integration and belonging

This is the second year that Unicamp has offered veteran students the opportunity to participate in and develop projects focused on integrating freshmen through the Acolhe Call for Proposals, which assists more experienced students in carrying out extracurricular activities in the areas of science and technology, arts and culture, and sports and health, as well as student engagement. The selected projects will be developed throughout the first semester of 2025.

“This is an interesting call for proposals because it encourages veteran students to develop projects to include incoming students. This is very positive. It is a very important connection to create,” said Toro. According to the provost, the initiative also helps to prevent university hazing, which is prohibited at Unicamp. “Through the projects, we encourage veterans to feel responsible, and freshmen learn about their rights as students, so they know who they can contact if a problem arises during their university life.”

Another initiative that aims to welcome and promote diversity is the Indigenous Freshman Party, aimed at students who entered the University through the Unicamp Indigenous Entrance Exam. The event will take place on March 17th, at Casa do Lago, on the Barão Geraldo campus.

A new feature of this year’s Indigenous Freshmen Program will be the presentation to new students of the Intercultural Training Program for Students Entering through the Indigenous Entrance Exam (Profiivi). Lasting two semesters, the program aims to train students before they enter the undergraduate courses themselves, reducing dropout rates. The training path has eight curricula, covering four areas: arts; biological sciences and health professions; human sciences; and exact, technological and earth sciences. After completing the Profiivi activities, students will begin the undergraduate courses for which they were accepted. “This is an important change in the opportunity that our indigenous students have to arrive at the courses better prepared and to be able to experience undergraduate studies,” Toro assessed.
