New foreign students are welcomed with activities at Casa do Lago

There are 62 undergraduate exchange students, 119 postgraduate exchange students and 19 PEC-G students.

Unicamp held a reception for new undergraduate and graduate foreign students on Thursday afternoon (13/03). The event, organized by the University's Executive Board of International Relations (Deri), took place at Casa do Lago.

In total, in 2025, 62 undergraduate exchange students will join Unicamp, who will remain at the University for a short period of time (one or two semesters), 19 students who will complete their entire undergraduate degree through the Undergraduate Exchange Student Program (PEC-G) and 110 foreign postgraduate students.

The reception was attended by the rector Antonio José de Almeida Meirelles, the director of International Relations, Osvaldir Pereira Taranto, and representatives from the Pro-Rectory of Undergraduate Studies (PRG) and the Pro-Rectory of Postgraduate Studies (PRPG).

The students also learned about the work of Uniin, a voluntary initiative led by Unicamp students that serves as a support network for foreigners during their stay at the University. They also participated in a capoeira workshop, where they were able to learn more about the instruments and practice of this Brazilian cultural expression.

The rector thanked the students for their presence and stressed the importance of making the most of their stay at Unicamp. “We are very happy to welcome you. Make yourself welcome. I did my doctorate in Germany and it was a very enriching experience. Therefore, I would like to emphasize that this is a time when you can establish new relationships and grow professionally. Make the most of it,” he said.

The Director of International Relations highlighted the benefits of this cultural exchange for the University. “We always think that those who go to another country benefit greatly, and that is true. But by welcoming foreign students, Unicamp is also enriched with new cultures, new ways of thinking and new knowledge. The entire academic community benefits from this diversity,” he said.

Student Ivanize Fernando Nhaga, from Guinea-Bissau, will complete her postgraduate studies at the School of Nursing (Fenf) at Unicamp. Present at the reception, Nhaga explained why she chose the University. “I chose Unicamp because of its strong research performance and its international reputation. I hope to leave here well qualified to contribute to my country,” she said.
