The University Council (Consu) of Unicamp, approved this Tuesday morning (6) the nominations of the rector Paulo Cesar Montagner for the roles of general coordinator and vice-rectors of the University for the four-year period 2025\2029.
For general coordination, the Council endorsed the name of Professor Fernando Antonio Santos Coelho and, of the five vice-rectorates existing at the University, four will be occupied by women.
Professor Ana Maria Frattini Fileti will continue as Pro-Rector of Research (PRP). The Pro-Rectorate of Undergraduate Studies (PRG) will be occupied by Professor Mônica Alonso Cotta and the Pro-Rectorate of Graduate Studies (PRPG) will be headed by Professor Cláudia Vianna Maurer Morelli. Professor Sylvia Helena Furegatti, in turn, was chosen for the position of Pro-Rector of Outreach, Sports and Culture (Proeec).
Professor Fernando Sarti completed the list, was nominated and remains in the Pro-Rectory of University Development (PRDU).

“These are professionals who have built solid careers and who have made intense and profound contributions to our university,” said the rector when justifying the nominations. “We know that we will face difficult times, but we want to face them with serenity, tranquility, balance and, above all, wisdom,” said Montagner. “If we can act like this, I bet that things can be better,” he added.
The new general coordinator of Unicamp said that the administration that is starting now will be permanently open to dialogue. “Considering the number of challenges that lie ahead, we are aware that we will not be able to do anything alone. We will need everyone’s help,” he said. “Because of this, our offices will always be open to people and the mechanisms for conversation and dialogue will be mechanisms that we will work on and encourage intensely,” added Coelho.
Anna Bentes, a professor in the Linguistics Department at the Institute of Language Studies (IEL), said that the decision by the Rectorate to have a majority of women as vice-rectors was a good one. “It is important to have women in leadership positions and to encourage the idea of equality, but women’s representation also depends on their position and commitment to the University,” said the professor. “It is important to have women who have proposals for inclusion policies and who are aligned with the progressive vision. Therefore, I believe that this was a very wise choice,” she added.
The nominations were approved by 54 votes in favor and two abstentions – which were registered by Ana Frattini and Fernando Sarti – who remained from the previous administration. “This has nothing to do with the names nominated, but since the vote is in a block, we could not vote for our own names”, explained Sarti.

The nominees
The Vice-Rector of Undergraduate Studies, Mônica Cotta, said that she faces the challenge “with a great sense of responsibility” and assured that she intends to maintain constant contact with students. “The student is the heart of the University. It is for them that we exist,” she said.
The Vice-Rector of Research, Ana Frattini – who served for about two years in the previous administration – said that the new administration entails new challenges, but made one reservation. “Our commitment will always be to public schools, inclusive, with excellence and ethics. We will always fight for academic and financial autonomy and fight for quality and excellent research,” she assured.
The new Vice-Rector of Graduate Studies, Cláudia Morelli, recalled Unicamp’s prominent position in this area. She said that 85% of graduate programs have received grades of 5, 6 and 7, with 44% in the highest ranges – the highest ratio in the country. “And this is the result of collective work, committed to training highly qualified human resources,” she said. “For me, it will be a great honor to contribute to advanced training and to think about graduate studies in its multiple facets,” she added.
The Vice-Rector of Extension, Sports and Culture, Sylvia Furegatti, said she has experience in the area and anticipates that she is open to dialogue with all areas of the university. "This area of art, sports and culture is something I have been working on for almost a decade. It is a great honor and a huge challenge (to occupy the position), but I think I am ready,” she said. “I would very much like to have a dialogue with all of you, in all areas,” she added.
The Vice-Rector for University Development, Fernando Sarti, said that the new administration will continue the policy of valuing the staff and the teaching career. He stated that “all demands are absolutely legitimate, but the big issue is that the blanket is short,” he warned. “And this brings us the challenge of priority – which will be faced through a responsible, democratic and transparent process of internal discussion,” he assured. Sarti issued a warning. “However, our corporate interests can never prevail over the republican and institutional interests of the University and society as a whole,” he warned.
