Caism wins award for services to women's health

With 140 active beds, the hospital treats medium and high complexity cases and performs an average of 7 outpatient consultations and 400 surgeries per month.

The Center for Comprehensive Care for Women's Health (Caism) at Unicamp – the Prof. Dr. José Aristodemo Pinotti Women's Hospital – was honored in the Chamber of Deputies with the Dr. Pinotti 2025 Award. The award is granted annually to government and non-governmental entities that have distinguished themselves in the promotion and improvement of women's health services.

For the superintendent of Caism, João Renato Bennini Junior, the honor is recognition of the excellent work that has been developed at the Center since its founding in 1986. “The award is the result of the work as a whole. For the hospital’s dedication to women’s and newborn health, in its various areas”, said the doctor, referring to specialties such as oncology, gynecology, mastology and obstetrics.

With 140 active beds, Caism is a medium and high complexity hospital. It carries out an average of 7 outpatient consultations and around 500 hospitalizations per month, in addition to approximately 400 surgical procedures.

“CAISM is known for being a hospital that offers social services, psychology, physiotherapy, intensive care units, and high-quality nursing, all integrated,” says the superintendent. In addition, it is directly linked to teaching and research activities, he emphasizes.

Bennini recalls that Caism Unicamp was the first hospital in Latin America focused exclusively on comprehensive women's health care. According to him, it was created based on a concept developed by Pinotti when he was a professor at Unicamp. Based on the experience gained at the University, other hospitals were opened in Brazil using the same model.

“This award, therefore, has great symbolism for us. It is like the closing of a cycle. It is only fair that we receive recognition that crowns Dr. Pinotti’s ideas. The community was very touched,” said Bennini.

The award

Awarded since 2010, the prize is named after the gynecologist, university professor and politician José Aristodemo Pinotti.

A graduate of the University of São Paulo (USP), where he built a significant part of his career, Pinotti was the author of more than 1.300 publications, including 37 scientific books and around 450 articles in national and international specialized magazines and newspapers.

In politics, he served as a federal deputy for three terms and dedicated his efforts to improving access to public health and services for the population, especially women. He died in July 2009, at the age of 74.
