A technical cooperation agreement signed on Wednesday afternoon (12) by the acting rector of Unicamp, Professor Fernando Coelho, and the rector of the State University of Amazonas (UEA), André Nunes Zogahib, will allow for the development of joint research and the exchange of professors, researchers, students and staff between the two institutions. The agreement provides for a broad cooperation program and should cover teaching and research activities, as well as the development and transfer of technologies and the use of facilities and equipment.
A cThe operation is part of the Networks for Institutional Internationalization program of Capes (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel). Called Capes-Global.Edu, the program aims to foster the creation of cooperation networks between national institutions at different stages of internationalization. Unicamp will be a network coordinator and will work with UEA in the North region; with the State University of Feira de Santana in the Northeast; with the State University of Mato Grosso (Unemat) in the Central-West region; and with the State University of Santa Catarina (Udesc) in the South region.
"In fact, this rapprochement between state universities is very important because it's complementary," Coelho said. "It's based on a major funding program run by Capes—which creates a large network of state universities throughout Brazil—as well as triangulation with international institutions. In other words, this rapprochement is beneficial for everyone. It's a win-win relationship," he summarized.

UEA has over 23 undergraduate and graduate students. It has six academic units in the capital, six higher education centers, and 17 higher education centers in the state's interior.
"We are universities that were born inland, that were born with multiple campuses, and that are focused on economic and social development," said the UEA rector. "I have no doubt that this partnership will be enriching for both institutions. We are discussing a series of possibilities for interaction, but above all, the exchange of experiences," he added.
The UEA rector says that the objective of the agreement with Unicamp goes beyond what is provided for in the Capes program. "The agreement we are establishing is a partnership with Capes Global, but with the possibility of interactions between graduate programs and our research groups in a wide range of fields. It's an agreement that makes us proud and hopeful for a promising future through science," he concluded.
Unicamp's Provost of Graduate Studies (PRPG), Cláudia Morelli, said she was excited about the cooperation opportunities opened up by the agreement and the Capes program. "I'm incredibly excited because I see this as a program that will not only strengthen our internationalization but also establish collaborations and roots with universities here in Brazil," the provost stated.
