Initiative brings together experts and staff to discuss 'Unicamp in the Age of Artificial Intelligence'

The agenda begins on September 9th, with the special forum and continues on the 10th and 11th; in November, events take place on the 4th to 6th and 27th.

Unicamp is now launching a broad debate in September on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in research, teaching, outreach, and management. Organized by the Information and Communication Technology Executive Board (Detic), the event "Unicamp in the AI Era" will feature managers, experts, and researchers—from the university and other institutions—to discuss strategies, challenges, and opportunities related to the use of AI in higher education.

A programming begins on September 9th with the Special Forum "Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education: Perspectives at Unicamp," hosted by the Office of the Provost for Extension, Sports, and Culture (Proeec). Discussions continue on September 10th and 11th with experts, researchers, administrators, and external guests.

On November 4th, 5th, and 6th, the 2th International Seminar on Curricular Innovations at EA27 will take place, with the theme "Artificial Intelligence, Skills, and Digital Technologies in Higher Education." On November XNUMXth, the Pagu Gender Studies Center will host the "Permanent Forum on Artificial Intelligence, Science, and Ethics: Alternatives for a Less Algorithmic Future."

According to Ricardo Dahab, director of Detic, the objective of the program is to analyze the potential of AI—its impact on teaching, research, outreach, and university infrastructure—but also to contribute to the development of parameters that align the use of the tool with the University's core values. According to Dahab, key issues will be discussed, such as the priority of human creation and authorship, the reliability of the knowledge generated, academic and administrative integrity, and ethically guided use. "We want to encourage reflection. We intend to provide support for the University to develop a document that will guide the use of AI at Unicamp," he explains.

The event will also mark the launch of the Artificial Intelligence Technology Reference Center (Crefia). Unlike other centers that prioritize research, Crefia aims to offer direct support to the internal community to promote the conscious and responsible use of artificial intelligence. Therefore, the goal is to provide guidance with tools, risk alerts, dissemination of best practices, training, and technical support. The Center will be coordinated by Professor Leonardo Tomazeli Duarte.

For Tomazeli, "Unicamp in the Age of AI" will enable debate on practical cases of AI use in university management, research and applications in the productive sector, data governance for sovereign science, and innovations in artificial intelligence.

Special Forum

Organized by Proeec, the Special Forum “Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education: Perspectives at Unicamp” will address strategic perspectives and institutional actions related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the context of higher education, focusing on the reality of Unicamp.

More than just discussing the impacts of AI on teaching and learning, the event proposes a broad reflection on how universities can actively and responsibly position themselves in the face of the transformations brought about by these technologies across their various areas of activity.

Beyond the strategic dimension, the Forum will also include practical discussions on the use of AI in the university's day-to-day activities, highlighting Unicamp's role in producing AI knowledge, creating technological solutions for society, and developing a critical perspective on the risks and opportunities associated with the adoption of these technologies in higher education. The event will take place on September 9th at the Convention Center.

Curricular Innovations

Organized by EA2, the 2th Curricular Innovations Seminar focuses on "Artificial Intelligence, Skills, and Digital Technologies in Higher Education." The event aims to foster debate on the transformations in the pedagogical field in light of the growing incorporation of digital technologies, with special attention to ethics, inclusion, and the role of universities in civic and critical education, explains AEXNUMX coordinator Silvio Consonni.

"We are living in a historic moment in which higher education needs to reinvent itself in the face of the transformations brought about by digital technologies and, in particular, by Artificial Intelligence," said the director. "The 10th Curricular Innovations Seminar is more than a space for debate: it is an opportunity for us to collectively reflect on how to build an educational ecosystem that unites innovation, responsibility, and social commitment," added Consonni.

Professor Arnaldo Pinto Jr., a faculty advisor in the Rector's Office, says the event's goal is to disseminate research and foster debate on digital skills and technologies in higher education, but not only that. "Another central perspective for the 10th Curricular Innovations Seminar is to problematize the ethical, aesthetic, and political implications of the growing use of AI platforms in numerous professional activities," he says. "Issues such as digital inclusion, free access to knowledge, and reducing inequalities are fundamental when we consider just and democratic societies," he concludes.
