Two scientists from Unicamp are elected to the São Paulo State Academy of Sciences

The announcement was made at the beginning of September; 19 researchers were elected

Two scientists from Unicamp – Daniela Zanchet (Chemical Sciences) and Flávio Keidi Miyazawa (Mathematical Sciences) – were elected to the São Paulo State Academy of Sciences (Aciesp). The announcement was made earlier this month. Nineteen scientists of excellence were elected, distributed across Aciesp's 19 areas. The list includes 10 women (10% of the total), a historic result that, according to the organization, strengthens the fight for gender equality, the appreciation of diversity, and the expansion of academic representation at the highest levels of scientific careers.

Daniela Zanchet (Chemical Sciences)

Daniela Zanchet holds a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Paraná (1993) and a master's and doctorate in Physics from Unicamp. She completed postdoctoral studies at the University of California, Berkeley, from 2000 to 2001, and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), from 2016 to 2017. She was a researcher at the Brazilian Association for Synchrotron Light Technology from 1999 to 2010 and, since 2010, has been a professor at the Institute of Chemistry (IQ) at Unicamp. She is a member of the International Association of Catalysis Societies (IACS) (2024-2026) and is currently the associate director of IQ.

Flávio Keidi Miyazawa (Mathematical Sciences)

Miyazawa holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS, 1990) and a master's degree (1993) and a doctorate (1997) in Applied Mathematics from the University of São Paulo (USP). In 1998, he began his career as a professor at the Institute of Computing (IC) at Unicamp. In 2003, he obtained the title of associate professor and, since 2012, he has been a full professor at the IC, having also served as coordinator of graduate studies (2005-2007) and associate director (2013-2014) of the institute. He received the Academic Excellence Award from the Institute of Computing (2008) and the Zeferino Vaz Award (2013). Furthermore, he was one of the founders of the Laboratory of Optimization and Combinatorics at Unicamp (in 2001).
