AI project wins Paepe 2025 Award, which had 297 entries.

Cacia, the University's artificial intelligence services platform, wins first prize; the City Hall comes in second and the HC's work in third.

The winners of the 2025 Award for Professionals Supporting Teaching, Research and Extension (Paepe) were celebrated on Monday morning (December 1st) at Unicamp. In total, 297 projects, with the participation of 1.103 professionals, competed for the award. In addition to the three best of the year, seven honorable mentions were given to projects ranked between 4th and 10th place, and 50 local awards were given.

The project “Cacia and AI API – Unicamp AI Services Platform”, developed by staff from the Executive Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (Detic), was the big winner of this edition. The group includes Edmilson Bellini Chiavegatto, Gabriel Ferrete, Leonardo Pires Trevisan, Ronie Ramos de Oliveira, and Thiago Takao. “We are very happy with the recognition. Today, Cacia is transforming Unicamp; we have more than 3 users. It's a living platform, implemented at the end of 2024, and offers several functionalities. And it's not just Cacia; there's also the API, which are routines that provide access to AI: each Unicamp unit accesses this routine to integrate artificial intelligence into its system,” explains Chiavegatto.

The Unicamp City Hall came in second place with the project "Monitoring and control of the drinking water distribution system on the Barão Geraldo campus – Campinas," and in third place was the project "Sepsis Protocol at HC Unicamp: Reducing risks, saving lives," from the Medical Health area.

The rector of Unicamp, Paulo Cesar Montagner, highlighted the initiatives presented in the projects. “These are proposals that improve our workflows and reveal a community that learns from its own experiences. The Paepe Award celebrates the commitment and innovation of our professionals; a hallmark that distinguishes our University is the daily dedication of those who sustain university life, making innovation a continuous process,” he emphasized.

The general coordinator of Unicamp, Fernando Coelho, added that the projects are examples of the high level of commitment of the professionals. “It is a great source of pride to participate in this ceremony; the proposals presented are already incorporated into the daily work of the people, and their commitment is the reason for the strength of this University.”

Created in 2011, the Paepe Award highlights projects by technical and administrative staff that contribute to the improvement of the University. The Director-General of Human Resources (DGRH) at Unicamp, Maria Aparecida Quina de Souza, emphasized the importance of the work. “It is an award that demonstrates our capacity and commitment, with the courage that is necessary for us. The results are worthy of great satisfaction.” Maria Fernanda Alonso Xavier and Jacques Gama, presidents of the Organizing Committee, thanked the members of the 39 local commissions that worked on evaluating the projects. The ceremony included a performance by the Zíper na Boca choir.
