The rector of Unicamp, Paulo Cesar Montagner, and the mayor of Paulínia, Danilo Barros, signed this Friday morning (5), at the University's Rectory, a memorandum of understanding that formalizes the intention of the institution and the municipality to carry out joint activities in the areas of research, extension, scientific and technological development and encouragement of innovation. The document foresees that the parties will prospect and propose themes that may give rise to collaborative projects of common interest.

“With the signing of this memorandum, we are celebrating one of the University's most important projects, which is to get closer to the society that surrounds us,” Montagner emphasized. “Of course, we are focused on the world, but it is also very important to look at our surroundings,” added the rector, who was accompanied by his deputy chief of staff, Zigomar Menezes de Souza.
The mayor of Paulínia highlighted the strategic nature of the agreement. “The cities that truly progress are those that move forward alongside knowledge,” he stated. “We don’t just want to be geographically close to Unicamp, but rather to acquire knowledge, exchange experiences, and contribute as well.”
Also participating in the meeting were the president of the Paulínia City Council, Pedro Bernarde; the city's attorney general, Gabriel Risso; and two members of Barros's cabinet, Silas Faria, head of the Government department, and Guilherme Mello, responsible for Innovation and Technology.
