Council members will be able to submit suggestions to the draft bill that changes the management of healthcare at Unicamp.

The 80 members of the University Council and their alternates received the PLC and a form.

Members of the University Council (Consu) will be able to make suggestions and propose changes to the draft of the Complementary Law Project (PLC) that foresees the expansion of Unicamp through the autonomous organization of the health area, which is scheduled to be voted on by the council on December 16th.

In an effort to open new channels of communication with the community, the General Secretariat (SG) distributed a copy of the draft to the members of the board. Along with the document, a form was provided so that the council members could suggest changes to the text.

Before sending the draft and the form, the Secretariat had scheduled two face-to-face meetings for the Rectorate to detail the project. The first one took place on Friday (5) with the teaching staff. The second meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday (9), at 15 pm, with the directors of units and bodies.

"The idea behind sending the draft and the form is to open up the possibility for the representatives of the University Council to make suggestions or changes they deem necessary," said the Secretary General, Ângela de Noronha Bignami.

According to her, the form is specific to the PLC. It contains all the articles of the project, with a field for comments, suggestions, or contributions to each one. The SG says it intends to wait for responses until noon on the 10th.

“After that, the secretariat will gather all the contributions, compile and organize the information in a way that allows for analysis by the Attorney General's Office, the Cabinet, and the council members themselves,” he stated. Bignami says that the 80 council members and their alternates received the draft and the form.

Community consultation

The process of consulting the community about the project began back in September, when the university administration held clarification meetings with the group of unit directors and, subsequently, with the faculty group. Following this, meetings were held with staff and students.

The most recent of these occurred last Friday, December 5th, when the general coordinator, Fernando Coelho, met with the faculty group for about 3 hours.

Investment capacity

The rector of Unicamp, Professor Paulo Cesar Montagner, argues that the project will allow the University to regain its investment capacity.

According to him, the transformation of the health area into an autonomous entity should lead to a strong expansion in the academic and healthcare activities of Unicamp.

Montagner emphasizes that the goal is to find alternative funding sources and participate more effectively in the São Paulo state budget for healthcare.
