Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences inaugurates new laboratories and auditorium.

Spaces are being expanded to accommodate the growth in the number of faculty and staff at the unit.

The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (FCF) inaugurated three new spaces in a ceremony held this Wednesday (10). From now on, the academic community has a Computer Lab with 15 new computers, a Multi-User Microbiology Lab — with a centrifuge, a laminar flow cabinet and benches for microscopes and utensils —, as well as an auditorium with 85 seats, where the inauguration event was held.

Located in sector 2 of FCF, the new laboratories are close to an area that already has a laboratory and where it is also planned to install a clinical analysis laboratory — bringing together, in the same place, various possibilities for study and research.

The rector of Unicamp, Paulo Cesar Montagner, recalled the installation of the FCF in current headquarters, relating this moment to the growth history of his original school, the Faculty of Physical Education (FEF), which It also recently opened new spaces..

“We have a great challenge together, which is to make progress in this wonderful school that is the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Not only because of the results it presents, but because of the future that is unfolding before us — with the prospect of having more projects, better working conditions and, above all, more students working in this area,” said the rector.

The general coordinator of Unicamp, Fernando Coelho, highlighted that FCF has been "establishing itself as a place for generating knowledge, training high-quality individuals, and making an important contribution to the community."

According to Coelho, the expectation is that the Faculty will continue to grow, as it has one of the most competitive courses in the entrance exam, with enormous employability, in addition to being ranked among the best pharmacy faculties in the country. "Although it is small in terms of space and student population, it is already great for everything it has delivered over these 20 years." Coelho also promised to work with the University Rectorate for the construction of a new building for the unit.

History and future

The director of FCF, Jörg Kobarg, recalled the history of the Faculty. The Pharmacy course was founded in 2002; FCF itself was created just over ten years ago, in 2014, and has occupied its current headquarters since 2017, one of the oldest buildings at Unicamp. “There have been many renovations and many achievements. Today, we celebrate yet another.”

Kobarg's plans include increasing undergraduate enrollment in the coming years, including offering an evening course. "We are the youngest unit at Unicamp and also the smallest, in terms of faculty and staff, but we want to grow." According to the director, the arrival of new faculty and staff and the opening of new spaces are steps in this direction.

Guilherme Capovilla, technical coordinator of FCF, stated that, in recent years, the unit has seen significant progress in terms of infrastructure. "The new laboratories are more than just modern facilities; they represent renewed opportunities for our research to positively impact society."

Capovilla emphasized that the ceremony celebrates “not only material and structural achievements, but, above all, the human strength that sustains the Faculty, the courage and compassion that mark our history and drive our future.”
