Unicamp Press will select up to ten books on innovation from recent research.

A call for proposals launched in the context of the University's 60th anniversary calls for the publication of original texts produced in the last three years.

The call for proposals “Technological, Cultural and Social Innovation Research at Unicamp (2025–2026)” will select up to ten proposals for original books derived from research developed at Unicamp in the last three years. The initiative is from the Unicamp Press, in partnership with the Pro-Rectorate for Research (PRP), and the selected works will be published starting in 2027. “The idea for the call for proposals took shape in the context of the Press's projects to celebrate Unicamp's 60th anniversary, which includes calls for proposals, new thematic series, and a book about the University's trajectory,” says Edwiges Maria Morato, director of the Unicamp Press.

“Our expectation is that the university community will engage and submit their publication proposals within the scope of the call for proposals, and that this will enable a new thematic series. As we are doing it, this editorial action is innovative,” emphasizes the director. “Through it, we expand our catalog and prospect works whose themes are on the agenda of 21st-century science, but which are still scarce or non-existent in our catalog.”

According to Morato, the objective is to stimulate the dissemination of scientific, technological, cultural, and social knowledge through monographic works or anthologies that express the institution's intellectual production in all areas of knowledge. “With this, we intend to expand and improve Unicamp's editorial collection, including works that meet the demands of the university community, contribute to the training of undergraduate and graduate students, and promote technological, cultural, and social innovation, with a significant impact on society,” he states. “A second expectation is that the publication of books focused on innovation by the Unicamp Press, one of the largest and most reputable university presses in Brazil, can broaden the reach of readers in general interested in the relationship between the university and the most diverse sectors of society.”

“Considering Unicamp’s admirable scientific output in various fields of knowledge, developed largely with the support of funding agencies and national and international public and private sectors, the idea is to celebrate this interaction with the publication of up to ten works identified as innovative, focusing on themes such as health, energy, agriculture, assistive technology, art, education, sustainability, public policy, communication, and social inclusion,” explains Morato.

The director emphasizes that the numbers presented by Unicamp regarding the production and social and technological impact of its research are extraordinary. "The ongoing call for proposals, as well as the new thematic series to be produced to celebrate Unicamp's 60th anniversary, seek to give this commemoration a meaning very specific to public universities: the sharing of what is produced by the University with society."

Partnerships with other University bodies have been very important for publishing activities, the director points out. “As one of the University's entities, the Publishing House seeks to align institutional initiatives and mobilize its catalog in an innovative way.” It is worth highlighting that the Publishing House has maintained and expanded internal institutional partnerships, such as the “Unicamp Entrance Exam Essays” series, developed with the Entrance Exam Commission (Comvest), “Classics of Brazilian Literature,” a bilingual series in partnership with the Directorate of International Relations (Deri), and “Classics of Chinese and Brazilian Literature,” also bilingual, with the Confucius Institute.

“The calls for proposals promoted in partnership with the Pro-Rectorate for Extension, Sports and Culture (Proeec) fit into this set of purposes. As a result of the first call for proposals, we launched the 'University Extension' series in 2025, whose objective was to disseminate, through academic publications, the extension activities of Unicamp. The second edition of this call for proposals was launched in 2025, with plans to launch new works in this series in 2026,” he states. For Morato, the production of books of an extension nature by the Unicamp Press is “somewhat pioneering.”

Registration until June 30th

The call for proposals “Technological, Cultural and Social Innovation Research at Unicamp (2025–2026)” is aimed at active and retired faculty members, as well as doctoral researchers on the Unicamp staff, whose research was completed between 2022 and 2025, with proven funding from public or private institutions. Applications must be submitted by June 30, 2026, exclusively through the Unicamp Publishing House's Works Processing System (Sito).

At the time of submission, applicants must send the final version of the work, following the publisher's editorial standards, as well as documentation proving the completion of the research. Originals in the form of theses, dissertations, reports, previously published articles, translations, re-editions, literary works, or texts in preliminary versions will not be accepted.

The selection process will be carried out in multiple stages: initially, an editorial committee formed by representatives from PRP and the Unicamp Press will screen the proposals; then, the eligible manuscripts will be evaluated by the Press's Editorial Board and submitted to a merit analysis, based on criteria such as originality, relevance, correctness, and technical feasibility. The result is expected on December 3, 2026.

The selected works may be published in print and/or digital format, in Portuguese and/or English, at the discretion of the Unicamp Press. The authors will receive 10% royalties on the sale price of the works.

According to the regulations, researchers from other institutions may participate as authors or organizers, provided that at least one faculty member or researcher with a doctorate from Unicamp is part of the authorship or organization of the work. In the case of anthologies, each chapter must have at least one author with a doctoral degree.
