Entry and exit access to the HC will be via facial recognition.

The devices have already been installed at the hospital's access points; access to the internal parking lot will also be via the same system.

Access for employees, patients, and visitors to the Unicamp Clinical Hospital (HC) will be via facial recognition. Biometric devices have already been installed at the hospital's access points. Employees can register their facial features using their cell phones via the device. Sualtech or in person, at specific physical locations defined and announced via email by the Human Resources Division (DRH) and the General Services Division (DSG) of the Unicamp HC.

“This initiative is part of the actions to reinforce security, protect our professionals, patients and visitors, and make our processes even more efficient,” comments Elaine Cristina de Ataíde, superintendent of the HC.

According to Giovanni Luvizari, supervisor of the Security, Reception and Security Services section of the General Services Division (DSG) at HC Unicamp, since the beginning of the tests for the installation of facial biometrics at the end of last year until the first half of January 2026, 1.203 people have already registered their faces, with 693 registrations done through the application and the rest in person.

Patients and visitors

Currently, access for professionals, students, faculty, and service providers is via access card. Patients and their companions are admitted through a screening process at the doors. Visitors and companions of hospitalized patients are registered in the visitor system itself.

With the facial biometrics system, it is expected that the flow of people will be faster, providing greater convenience to users, as well as improving access records and optimizing the service of employees who control access to people in the hospital.

Gledson Kawasaki, coordinator of the DSG at the Unicamp Hospital, informs that all patients, companions, and visitors will soon have to register using the biometric system to access the hospital. Patient registration will be integrated into a communication application still under development by a Unicamp IT working group, called the Unicamp Integrated Health System (SUSI), which is part of the hospital management system. AGHUse.

"The expectation is that we will begin carrying out these registrations in stages during the first half of this year. This change will provide greater efficiency in serving those in the queues," explains Gledson.

The facial recognition system used by the HC is the same one used at the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FCM), the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (FCF), the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering (FEEC), the Institute of Geosciences (IG), the Gleb Wataghin Institute of Physics (IFGW), and the Executive Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (Detic) at Unicamp. The investment for the acquisition and installation of the equipment was R$ 133, with resources from the HC itself.

Indoor parking

The current access control model for the HC parking lot is done through a sticker affixed to the vehicle's windshield. Access to the HC's internal parking lot will also be done via facial biometrics. The registration process will be the same as that used at the hospital's entrances. Only the entry authorization control will be carried out on different devices. The HC's investment in the use of biometrics and the automation of vehicle entry and exit gates was R$ 42.

“With the implementation of the facial biometric access system, we hope to ensure that only authorized people enter the parking lot, thus reducing the risk of unauthorized access, accidents, overcrowding, and the use of inappropriate spaces as parking spots,” Gledson emphasizes.
