Summary
The first stage of the technology consists of capturing brain waves, which can be done inside or outside the brain. Many current applications install sensors in a helmet, which, when in contact with the scalp, can read the electromagnetic waves emanated by the organ. “But the braincase is an insulator. The signal arrives attenuated, with a lot of noise”, says Fernando Von Zuben, professor and researcher at the Institute for Research on Neuroscience and Neurotechnology, BRAINN, at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp).
