The researcher at Unicamp Maria Teresa Mantoan explains the importance of access to common classes: “With classes exclusively for students with disabilities, there is a differentiation and this is already discriminatory.” Given this idea, in 2008, the Ministry of Education (MEC) began to adopt the National Policy on Special Education with an Inclusive Perspective. The effect was to change the scenario for students targeted by Special Education, those with physical and mental disabilities, global developmental disorders and high abilities or giftedness.
