Why using the HDI to measure a country's development can be wrong

“Since the creation of the HDI, there have been critical views regarding the capacity of the indicator made up of three factors to actually be a good assessment of economic and social development”, says economist Marcio Pochmann, former president of the Institute of Applied Economic Research (Ipea) and professor at Unicamp. “But despite all these criticisms, it is an index that has become globally important and has even been adopted by the United Nations itself.”
