Summary
Sociologist and researcher at the Center for Public Policy Studies (Nepp) at Unicamp, Ana Maria Carneiro believes that more than just a chance for people who would not otherwise have access to higher education, affirmative action policies, such as scholarships and quotas, can help improve the courses themselves, both in public and private institutions. To achieve this, however, universities need to prepare themselves to deal with the changes brought about by the greater diversity of the student body.
