Summary
This was the case of Amara Moreira, who defines herself as a transvestite and in February became the first person to obtain a doctorate from the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) using the social name. “I began my transition at age 29, in the first year of my doctorate in literary criticism,” she says, whose thesis, entitled “The Indetermination of Meanings in James Joyce’s Ulysses,” was supervised by Suzi Frankl Sperber, professor at the Institute of Studies in Literature.
