The work is the result of the author's doctoral thesis defended at the Department of Applied Linguistics (DLA) of the Institute of Language Studies (IEL) of the State University of Campinas (Unicamp). “Supported by the theoretical-methodological apparatus of Discourse Analysis of a materialist nature in the interface with Freud's studies on comedy, I analyze the ways in which humor is approached by English as a foreign language textbooks, seeking to understand its meaning process, as well how the concepts of teaching and language cross them”, explains Mota.
