One of these patents was obtained thanks to the work of researcher Rodney Rodrigues, from Unicamp, and his team. They created a method without using carcinogenic chemicals to remove pigments from the extract, which expands its use as an anesthetic. According to him, researchers do not always know which patents already exist abroad, hence the importance of having innovation offices at universities.
