Institute of Chemistry is awarded for the fifth time as Outstanding Unit in Intellectual Property Protection
A faculty accustomed to working in partnership, not only with other sectors of the University, but also with the best research centers in the world. Natural collaboration is one of the main ingredients to make the Unicamp Chemistry Institute (IQ) a reference not only for its scientific production, but also for its strong culture of intellectual property protection. In 2021, IQ receives the title of Outstanding Unit in Intellectual Property Protection for the fifth time in thirteen years of the Inventors Award.
Even in the midst of the pandemic, IQ professors were involved in 20 of Unicamp's 64 patent filings in 2020, as well as in 24 of the 110 patents granted to the University by the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI). In total, the IQ community has been involved in 419 patents since 1997, of which 279 are currently in force, that is, they have been granted or are awaiting examination by the INPI.
According to the director of IQ, Professor Marco Zezzi, collaboration and multidisciplinarity occur naturally at IQ, contributing to the positive cycle of inventiveness. “Our tradition is based on the diversity of research carried out and the competence of the teaching staff. The award shows us that we are on the right path”, celebrates Zezzi. The internal collaboration – between professors, researchers and IQ employees – in supporting teaching, research and extension is also celebrated by the director as one of the Unit's differences that leverages it into results in favor of innovation.
