ABC celebrates its centenary of existence in 2016. It is a non-governmental and non-profit entity, which acts as an honorary scientific society and focuses on the scientific development of the country and the interaction between Brazilian and foreign scientists. The entity currently has around 700 members.
In the last election, more than 40 scientists of excellence in various areas of knowledge were chosen. The selection process for new members begins in September, with the nomination of candidates, which can only be done by full members of ABC, through the electronic voting system or by letter. All nominees are evaluated by their peers.
