Conductor and singer Ana Salvagni won the regional category of the Brazilian Music Award with the album “Alma Cabocla” in 2010. Guitarist Eduardo Lobo won second place in the seventh edition of the Visa Instrumental Award in 2004. Graduates from the Unicamp Arts Institute , five years ago, they started a project whose result is the CD Song of Distant Love. One of the album launch shows takes place on Friday (December 9th), starting at 20:30 pm, at Cia. Sarau, in the district of Barão Geraldo, in Campinas. The show has a special participation by instrumentalist Paulo Freire (on viola), one of the guests for the recording of the album distributed by Tratore.

Anyone who knows Ana’s voice and Lobo’s guitar playing can imagine what “Canção do amor distant” has in store for listeners of good quality music. In 12 arrangements for guitar and voice, they sing about absent love in different rhythms, genres, eras and cultures, according to Ana.

Among the pieces that make up the work are Canção I, by Zeca Baleiro and Hilda Hilst, Contract of Separation, by Dominguinhos and Anastácia, Apaga o Fogo Mané, by Adoniran Barbosa, and Cantiga de Amigo, by Elomar. “There are other surprises on the album”, says Ana.

If talking about absent love evokes nostalgia, the artists show different styles to interpret it. The project, according to the artists, originates from the desire to perform songs with greater density.

The CD was entirely produced in Campinas, and featured the special participation of several musicians, including Matteo Ricciadi (clarinet), Chico Santana (percussion), Paulo Freire (viola), Fernanda Vieira (marimba), Carlinhos Antunes (Venezuelan cuatro) and Thibault Delor (double bass).

Crowdfunding
Public involvement can be an important factor in the completion of an artistic project. Ana comments on the successful result of the collective financing for the production of the new album. “Crowdfunding is a great alternative. Success largely depends on your communication and interaction with your audience and also on preparing material that is attractive and at the same time explains clearly and succinctly what your project is about. So, it is hard work, but very rewarding, not only in terms of raising the funds necessary to carry out the project, but also in terms of greater involvement with people.”

Many artists or even institutions have opted for this collaborative form to get projects off the ground that, in principle, seem financially unviable. There is no set amount for the employee, but there is always a reward. “We were very happy with the result”, says Ana.

Artistic career
Ana Salvagni completed her Conducting course at Unicamp in 1994, the same year she began singing professionally with Trio Bem Temperado (José Eduardo Gramani and Patrícia Gatti). Singer and poet, she recorded the CDs Ana Salvagni (1999), terraced (2005) and Alma Cabocla (2009). The musician has published two books of poetry, Janela Sem Tranca and Fotos do Espelho.

Ana Salvagni is also the conductor of the choirs Açucena, Avis Rara and Da Quinta, all from Campinas-SP, and is part of the show Windows of Time, with the group Choro da Mata. She participated in important musical programs on TV Cultura in São Paulo and currently performs in shows alongside guitarist Paulo Freire and also in a duo with guitarist Eduardo Lobo.

A doctoral student in music at Unicamp, Eduardo Lobo also has recorded several CDs, the first Choro Elétrico (resulting from the Visa Award). The second and third with Quatro a Zero (new formation for Choro Elétrico) take the title Open door (2008) and Joy (2010). The album Abrideira was produced with the choro group Fina Estampa and the last one, Idea from Before, was released in 2013.
