In the specific skills test in Visual Arts at Unicamp, this Monday (23) an exercise was proposed for candidates to self-portrait. The idea was based on a current and exciting topic for young people: the issue of gender. “The aim was to spark reflections on this, which is already very evident in the media”, pointed out professor Antonio Carlos Rodrigues (Tuneu), who has been coordinating these tests at the Institute of Arts (IA) for over ten years. This year, 95 candidates compete for 30 vacancies.
According to Tuneu, the great instrument of the test was the interaction with a mirror, in which they had to see themselves as they are today, imagine themselves in old age and imagine themselves in another sexual gender. "The girls had to see themselves as boys, and the boys as girls", said the IA teacher. “It was an unprecedented proposal and we played with it knowing that it would provoke a lot of reactions. We wanted to know how they would deal with prejudiced aspects and how they would view themselves in relation to them.”
The coordinator signaled that the final result will largely depend on how people see themselves, their prejudices and beliefs. "People don't usually look at themselves in this deeper way. So the answer will require a lot of creativity. Some may show prejudice, others may not. I think that the artist should not be someone who is prejudiced.”
This was a good time to think about the matter. "However, We take this look to the art side", highlighted Tuneu. "I'm curious to know how the students will position themselves?", he explained, highlighting that this test will mainly take into account the quality of the drawing and originality, but always with technical restrictions. Young people will work with colored pencils and graphite “Not everyone does well with these materials,” he said.
This Tuesday and Wednesday (24th and 25th), it will be time for interviews. Candidates will bring their personal portfolios, which will be worth noting. "So we want to see what it means for them to work at home with the material of their choice”, he reported. The specific skills tests for the 2017 Entrance Exam, required in some courses, continue until Thursday, the 26th. Find out more about the evidence
