Rector succession process will have five candidates

The Organizing Committee of the Community Consultation for the succession of the rector of Unicamp welcomed, during a meeting held on the morning of this Monday (6), the registrations of five candidates for the process: Antonio Celso Fonseca de Arruda, Léo Pini Magalhães, Luis Alberto Magna, Marcelo Knobel and Rachel Meneguello. The first round of consultation will be held on March 15th and 16th. Below, a brief profile of the candidates and the full note issued by the Commission.

Antonio Celso Fonseca de Arruda

He completed his undergraduate, master's and doctorate degrees at the State University of Campinas. He was director of the Faculty of Engineering of Campinas at Unicamp (1986-1990) and director of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Unicamp (1998-2002), of which he is the dean. He has experience in Mechanical Engineering in the areas of biomaterials and biomechanics, he guided the research work that resulted in the first hair fiber membrane oxygenator for cardiovascular surgery, which was sold in fourteen countries, and the first Brazilian electromechanical artificial heart (bridge for transplantation) . Currently, he focuses his research activities on protective equipment for children.

Léo Pini Magalhães

Léo Pini Magalhães, born in the city of Rio de Janeiro, on January 2, 1952, is Gabriel's grandfather, married to Silvia, father of Lia and Lucas, Natacha's son-in-law. He was raised in Santos (SPP. In 1970 he joined Unicamp, on the Electrical Engineering course. He received his master's degree as a CNPq scholarship holder with work on Self-Adjusting Regulators, under the guidance of professor Manuel de Jesus Mendes and his doctorate (Dr. -Ing.) in the area of ​​Information Technology at the University of Darmstadt, Germany, with a scholarship from DAAD, under the guidance of professor José Luis Encarnação, completed in May 1981, with a thesis on Human-Machine Communication in Process Control environments. He has been a professor at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering since 1977, and MS-1999 Professor (Title) since 6. His main area of ​​interest is Image Computing. After his doctorate he spent two stays abroad, at the University of Darmstadt - Informatics (1988) and at the University of Waterloo - Computer Science (1996-1997). Supervised eight doctoral theses and 35 master's dissertations. Published 3 technical books, articles in journals (15) and in specialized conferences (70). He is a (senior) member of the IEEE and a member of the SBC, ACM and EUROGRAPHICS Societies. His administrative experience includes: assistant to the dean of Research at Unicamp (1986-1987); vice-coordinator of the FEEC Postgraduate Course; deputy coordinator of DCA/FEEC - Unicamp; coordinator of the Brazilian-Argentine Information Technology Program - PABI (1992-1996); coordinator of the Electrical Engineering course at Unicamp (4/93-3/95); He also worked in ProTeM's Cooperation for Latin America (1995-1996). He was Director of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering from April/1999 to April/2003. He was a member of numerous Committees at Unicamp, for example CPDIUEC (president) and the Limeira Campus Committee. He is currently a teaching representative on the Unicamp University Council.

Luís Alberto Magna

Full professor at the Department of Medical Genetics at the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Unicamp since 1987. He graduated in Medicine at Unicamp (1979), having completed a master's degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology at the Institute of Biology (IB) in 1981, concentrating his research in Biochemical Genetics and Pharmacogenetics, obtaining a doctorate in Genetics from the same Institute (1984). In 1987, he became a professor in the area of ​​Medical Genetics at the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FCM) at Unicamp and was a full professor at the Federal University of São Carlos, and later at Unicamp, in 1987. He was head of the Department of Medical Genetics at FCM from 1986 to 1988, coordinator of the IB Postgraduate Subcommittee in Genetics in 1988, coordinator of the FCM Postgraduate Committee from 1988 to 1990 and director of FCM from 1990 to 1994. As a doctor, he carried out extension activities working from 1979 in the Clinical Genetics Service of the Department of Medical Genetics until 1998, when he began working in the hematogenetics specialty of the same service, providing genetic counseling to hemophiliacs and their families, to those with hereditary hemoglobinopathies and genetic guidance to blood donors carrying the trait sickle cell and hemoglobin C. He currently holds the position of Vice-Dean of Undergraduate Studies at Unicamp.

Marcelo Knobel

He is a professor at the Gleb Wataghin Institute of Physics (IFGW), at Unicamp. Researcher 1A at CNPq, he carries out research in the area of ​​magnetism and magnetic materials, and is also dedicated to the dissemination of science and technology, public perception of science and Higher Education. He coordinated the Creativity Development Center (Nudecri) and was the executive director of the Exploratory Science Museum-Unicamp. He was a Member of the Physics and Astronomy Advisory Committee at CNPq and was a Member of the Physics Area Coordination at Fapesp. He was a member (notably known) of the National Commission for the Assessment of Higher Education (CONAES), from 2010 to 2016. He was pro-rector of Undergraduate Studies at Unicamp (2009-2013), when he implemented the Interdisciplinary Higher Education Program (ProFIS), which combines a social inclusion program with general training, for which he received the Peter Muranyi Award in the area of ​​Education (2013). He was director (from August 2015 to October 2016) of the National Nanotechnology Laboratory (LNNano), of the National Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM).

Rachel Maneguello

Full Professor at the Institute of Philosophy and Human Sciences. She graduated in Social Sciences from Unicamp (1977-1980), received a Master's degree in Political Science and a PhD in Social Sciences also from the University, and studied Methodology and Quantitative Methods in Social Research at the University of Michigan. She has been a professor at the Department of Political Science at IFCH since 1986, completed her Associate Professorship in the area of ​​Political Parties in 2005 and has been a full professor since 2013 in the area of ​​Political Parties and Political Behavior. In the administrative sphere of IFCH, she was associate director of the Edgard Leuenroth Archive, head of the Political Science Department, coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Political Science and general coordinator of the Institute's Postgraduate Studies. Also at IFCH she has been a teaching representative at different levels in the Congregation for several years, in addition to having represented the unit in the former CADI in two terms. At the university level, she was a researcher at NEPP, founder and researcher at the Center for Public Opinion Studies (1992), where she was director for four terms and founder and current editor of Revista OPINIÃO PÚBLICA (1993). Currently, she is a 1B researcher at CNPq, coordinator of the Fapesp Thematic Project “Organization of Representative Politics in the State of São Paulo”, and of the São Paulo School of Advanced Science in Methodology in Human Sciences / IFCH. She has held the position of Dean of Postgraduate Studies at the University since August 2014.
