The Hospital de Clínicas da Unicamp (HC) delivered to the community, this Thursday morning (16), a series of improvements to its physical facilities: renovation of the slabs, new living area for students from the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FCM) and new area for the Discipline of Endocrinology. The works were made possible thanks to resources from the University and HC.
The rector of Unicamp, José Tadeu Jorge, visited the hospital accompanied by João Batista de Miranda, superintendent of the HC; Ivan Toro, director of FCM; Antonio Gonçalves de Oliveira Filho, HC assistance coordinator; José Roberto Mattos Souza, hospital administration coordinator; Denise Engelbrecht Zantut Wiltman, head of the Endocrinology Discipline at FCM; and Marcos Tambascia, professor of the Endocrinology Department. Other hospital directors, doctors, managers and employees also participated in the area handover ceremony.
João Batista de Miranda said that the waterproofing of ten thousand meters of slabs is a very important achievement for the hospital, given that this space is located in a strategic point of the institution and that, over time, it showed leaks that ended up being reflected on the floors lower. "With the reform, we gained in safety and qualified our activities in sectors that have a closer relationship with patients."
In his speech, rector Tadeu Jorge recalled that this is the first renovation of the slabs since they were laid, around 30 years ago. “The resources are the result of budgetary allocations, even at a time of economic crisis. This crisis has persisted especially in the last three years. We have made a great effort to maintain the building infrastructure and renew equipment.”
The rector emphasized that the HC has also carried out repeated initiatives in search of resources via parliamentary amendments and that it has used its own reserves to be used precisely in these times of crisis. "But eventually this crisis will end. In the meantime, we will seek to maintain quality so that Unicamp can consolidate itself with even more outstanding indicators”, he highlighted, congratulating the HC managers for their actions.
According to Endocrinology professor Marcos Tambascia, the delivery of the new rooms to the Endocrinology area will improve patient care and will serve several functions. There are 114 square meters. "We have an exam collection room for dynamic tests, in which the patient has to remain at rest for a while and, therefore, the space requires comfort. We collect the blood to do the basal dosage", he said.
Other rooms are already operating to support research and teaching support for the discipline. It also has a higher resolution ultrasound room to perform thyroid aspiration puncture, which determines the location of the nodule and whether the needle reached the right point. "In addition, we carry out cytological evaluation of the nodules and the storage of serum", reported Marcos Tambascia. “These changes are already helping a lot those who work here and the patients who spend a good part of the day in this place”, he highlighted.
The director of FCM highlighted that HC is the largest teaching laboratory in Campinas, where projects are developed and allow research to advance. He said that the common room for FCM students and interns is an achievement, given that many of them stay at the HC for up to 30 hours when they work shifts. The room is 35 square meters and will be used for rest and research for students, who will have computers and a Wi-Fi network at their disposal. "We have to praise this work, which goes in the direction that the college has sought to impart to its dynamics."
Basic Cycle 2
The Notebook Computer Laboratory was also inaugurated at Unicamp on Thursday afternoon (16), located in Basic Cycle 2. The location accommodates 33 notebooks to be used by students in subjects that require this use. The initiative is from the Dean of Undergraduate Studies (PRG).
The dean of undergraduate studies at Unicamp, Luis Alberto Magna, commented that this project aims to teach classes and that its maintenance has been carried out by the Directorate of Logistics and Infrastructure for Education (DLIE). “It is a simple but efficient project. The installations were carried out by the DLIE team itself,” he highlighted.
According to the University's rector, José Tadeu Jorge, the delivery of this work to the community is an example of the spirit of Unicamp since its foundation. “Our University was built in a simple way. We don't have sumptuous buildings. We started with sheds and saving resources, because the essence, according to the then rector Zeferino Vaz, was people”, he stated. Tadeu Jorge congratulated everyone involved in the work.
DLIE manages the Basic Cycles 1, 2 and Basic Engineering complex, providing computational support, WIFI network, classroom infrastructure and computer laboratories. Its responsible is the employee Dércio Tabossi Filho. "We started the project together with the administrative team, information technology, academic support and DLIE interns", informed Dércio.
