Unicamp has just been incorporated into the Campinas Integrated Monitoring Center (CIMCamp), a system that currently monitors 26 points in the city, using 91 cameras. At the University, 21 cameras were installed in the six entrances of the Barão Geraldo campus, which will control the entry and exit of vehicles. If there is any restriction on a specific vehicle (recorded theft or theft, for example), an alarm is triggered at the monitoring center. Immediately, a protocol comes into operation that mobilizes agents from CIMCamp itself and the Municipal Guard (GM).

In return for integration into the system, Unicamp promoted the installation of three monitoring points in the District of Barão Geraldo, chosen by the City of Campinas. In total, the University invested R$379 in the project. The incorporation of the University into CIMCamp is part of the Tranquilo Campus Program, an action developed by the General Coordination of the University (CGU), which aims to increase the safety and quality of life of the university community and visitors.

According to Unicamp's general coordinator, professor Alvaro Crósta, the partnership with CIMCamp is the result of a series of meetings with the internal community. “We wanted to adopt a solution that would make the control of vehicles entering and leaving the campus more efficient. Integration with CIMCamp proved to be the most appropriate, given that the system is already in operation and has provided good results”, he considers.

According to Crósta, with the adoption of monitoring cameras, it will no longer be necessary to hand out identification cards to drivers, which will make traffic faster. Currently, 42 thousand vehicles circulate through the Barão Geraldo campus daily. The technical advisor at the University City Hall, Airton Lourenço, explains that the cameras installed at the University entrances record vehicle license plates, which are automatically stored in a database.

If there is a record of robbery or theft related to a vehicle, an alarm is triggered at CIMCamp. “When this happens, a protocol is initiated that mobilizes agents from the Central and GM itself. The University’s surveillance does not take any type of approach as a way of guaranteeing the integrity of our professionals”, he notes. In the future, adds Wellington Terra de Andrade, administrative advisor to the University City Hall, Unicamp intends to add other services to the system.

One possibility, according to him, is to monitor the schedules of chartered buses that serve the University's technical-administrative employees. “In this case, the system will record the bus entry and exit times, which will allow us to know whether they are following the set timetable”, he explains. With the end of identification cards, employees of the company that operates the entrances will receive training to provide information to visitors.

The general coordinator of Unicamp points out that the integration of Unicamp into CIMCamp was possible thanks to the umbrella agreement signed between the University and the City of Campinas. “I think this solution represents an important advance within the guidelines of the Tranquilo Campus Program, which adopted a series of other measures to increase security on University premises, such as the launch of the Panic Button and the replacement of campus lighting”, he states. the leader.

REGISTRATION

With the integration of Unicamp into CIMCamp, the university community will no longer be obliged to register their vehicles in the control system maintained by the University, nor to affix a seal to the windshield. However, the institution put into operation a registry for voluntary membership of teachers, staff and students. “The objective, in this case, is to notify the owner when campus surveillance identifies, for example, vehicles with open windows, headlights on or flat tires”, explains Wellington Andrade. The registration can be accessed through this link.
