Researchers from the Gleb Wataghin Institute of Physics at the State University of Campinas (IFGW-Unicamp) have theoretically developed a silicon photonic device that could enable the interaction between optical and mechanical waves that vibrate in the range of tens of gigahertz (GHz). Result of the “Nanophotonics” projects in semiconductors from Groups IV and III-V” and “Optomechanics in photonic and phononic crystals”, both supported by FAPESP in the Young Researchers in Emerging Centers modality, the device, developed during Yovanny Espinel’s doctorate, was described in an article published in magazine Scientific Reports, from the Nature group.
