The University Council (Consu) of Unicamp, the highest deliberative body of the University, defined this Tuesday morning (28), during an extraordinary session and by secret vote, the triple list for the succession of the rector. The list reflected the results of the consultation carried out with the community on March 15th and 16th, which identified physicist Marcelo Knobel as the winner, followed by professors Rachel Meneguello and Luís Alberto Magna. The list will now be sent, in the form of an official letter, to Governor Geraldo Alckmin, who has the prerogative to appoint the institution's top director, whose mandate will be four years (2017-2021).
The triple list was defined after three ballots. In the first, Marcelo Knobel was appointed to head the list after obtaining 53 votes. In the second vote, Rachel Meneguello received 43 votes and, in the third, Luís Alberto Magna received 39 votes. The order of names coincides with the placement of the three candidates in the consultation carried out with the university community.
The consultation process for the rector's succession was decided in the first round. Marcelo Knobel obtained 52,63% of the valid votes, followed by Rachel Meneguello (28,72%), Luís Alberto Magna (13,34%), Léo Pini Magalhães (4,88%) and Antonio Fonseca (0,43%) . Marcelo Knobel's running mate for the position of general coordinator of the University is professor Teresa Atvars.
If appointed by the governor, Knobel will be 12th in the line of succession to Zeferino Vaz (1966-1978), founder of Unicamp. After Zeferino, came the doctor Plínio Alves de Moraes (1978-1982), the gynecologist José Aristodemo Pinotti (1982-1986), the economist Paulo Renato Souza (1986-1990), the linguist Carlos Vogt (1990-1994), the pediatrician José Martins Filho (1994-1998), electronics engineer Hermano Tavares (1998-2002), physicist and electronics engineer Carlos Henrique de Brito Cruz (2002-2005), food engineer José Tadeu Jorge (2005-2009 ), hematologist Fernando Ferreira Costa (2009-2013) and again José Tadeu Jorge (2013-2017).
