The Geosciences Institute (IG) has received important distinctions in recent months. The Unicamp Student Chapter, together with the Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society - GRSS), has just won a plaque from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). It was a recognition of its excellence for the activities carried out at the institute in 2016. This Chapter is a non-profit student association that began activities in 2010 at the University, affiliated with the IEEE branch. The current president of the Chapter is postdoctoral fellow Rosa Correa Pabón.
Furthermore, Saeid Asadzadeh, a doctoral student at IG, recently received an award from the American Association of Petroleum Geologists Foundation as a result of his thesis project. In his work, the Iranian doctoral student proposes a new approach to promote the direct detection of oil exposed on the Earth's surface. Read text about the subject in Journal of Unicamp.
Doctoral student João Gabriel Motta was awarded a sandwich scholarship from the Australian Embassy to study at Monash University, in Melbourne. His trip is scheduled for next June, where he will remain for a period of three months. There the doctoral student will continue his research on mineral prospecting. It should investigate ways of evaluating the effective usefulness of data on the Earth's gravitational field, obtained via satellite, in discovering new deposits minerals, which will facilitate decision-making on investments in new areas and the management of exploratory risks.
He will be part of the study group “Structural geophysics", accompanied by Monash professor Peter Betts, with whom he will discuss his current research results and undertake the development of new approaches and results comparing host environments for IOCG-type mineralization in Brazil and around the world, from the perspective of geophysics. "I'm very happy, because Australia, alongside Brazil and Canada, has the most economically and socially significant mining operations in the world", said João. Both doctoral students are supervised by Professor Carlos Roberto de Souza Filho, who is also the advisor and sponsor of the GRSS Student Chapter of IEEE at Unicamp.
