
Governor Geraldo Alckmin appointed this Tuesday, 4th, Marcelo Knobel to hold the position of Rector of the State University of Campinas – Unicamp, with a four-year term. The appointment will be published in the Official Gazette this Wednesday, April 5th. See the nomination
Prof. Dr. Marcelo Knobel received the most votes on the triple list, winning 52,63% of the valid votes. He will be the 12th rector in the line of succession to Zeferino Vaz (1966-1978), founder of Unicamp.
Biography
Marcelo Knobel is a professor at the Gleb Wataghin Institute of Physics (IFGW), at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp). Researcher 1A at CNPq, he carries out research in the area of magnetism and magnetic materials, and is also dedicated to the dissemination of science and technology, public perception of science and Higher Education.
He was director (from August 2015 to October 2016) of the National Nanotechnology Laboratory (LNNano), of the National Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM). Marcelo Knobel is also a Fellow of the Eisenhower Fellowships (2007), a Fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation (2009) and a Lemann Fellow (2015). He is a member of the Board of Directors of Cultural Vistas. He is vice-president of the Brazilian Physics Society. He is deputy coordinator of Research Collaborations at the São Paulo State Research Support Foundation (Fapesp). He is editor of the Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials (Elsevier) and Scientific Reports (Nature). He is editor-in-chief of the Science and Culture Magazine of the Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science (SBPC).
