Rector Marcelo Knobel signed in the early afternoon of this Thursday (20) the first two administrative acts of his management at Unicamp. The first eliminated the accumulation of positions and the consequent double enrollment in the University's Higher Administration, a commitment made during the campaign for the Rectorship. The measure affects nine functions. The second act ceased the payment of representation bonuses for ten positions also in the Higher Administration. “These are concrete initiatives, which symbolize the effort that the University will have to make to resolve its budgetary difficulties”, stated Knobel.
According to the dean, the extinction of dual enrollment will not need to be approved by any collegial bodies. “We consulted the Unicamp Attorney General's Office (PG), who advised us to cancel the dual registration by administrative act, as it was created through the same instrument”, explained Knobel. The director classified the two measures as important in the context of the budgetary difficulties currently faced by the University.
According to him, the institution is going through a period of reorganization in the way expenses should be made. “We want to provide increasingly more transparency to the decisions we make, including in relation to the University’s finances, with the purpose of optimizing the resources obtained through taxes paid by society”, he pointed out. Unicamp's general coordinator, Teresa Atvars, noted that the two administrative acts do not bring any harm to the University's core activities.
“Reducing expenses is, at this moment, essential to balance Unicamp’s accounts. The two measures represent an example of Higher Administration in this sense”, said the general coordinator. The Rectory's chief of staff, Joaquim Bustorff, accompanied the signing of the administrative acts; the deputy chief of staff, Shirlei Pimentel; and the dean of Undergraduate Studies, Eliana Amaral.
