Campinas is one of the host cities of Pint of Science 2017. The science popularization festival takes place between the 15th and 17th of May in four bars: Echos, Alzirão II, Labo B and Youu Geek. Rather than pocket shows, those who liven up the night in these places are scientists. Without slide presentations and in a relaxed manner, the objective is to talk to the general public about how science is acting in the face of current global crises: major epidemics, climate change, the end of privacy, among others. It is possible to choose topics from 24 different debates, always starting at 19:30 pm. See full schedule.
Pint of Science It is the result of the work of a network of volunteers willing to expand interest in science worldwide. The initiative originated in 2013, in England, but only came to Brazil in 2015. In this second edition, in 2017, 22 cities in the country participate, with the support of researchers and several universities. Unicamp is one of them, including speakers such as Carlos Henrique de Brito Cruz (IFGW), Maria Aparecida Moysés (FCM), Gonçalo Amarante Pereira (IB), Carlos Joly (IB), Amir Caldeira (IFGW), Li Li Min (FCM ), Maria Silvia Gatti (IB), Frésia Branco (IG), Diego de Freitas Aranha (IC), Rodolfo Azevedo (IC) and Gisela Umbuzeiro (FT).
The TV Unicamp journalism team spoke with Isabela Schirato and Rafael Bento, from Numinalabs, the company responsible for the event in Campinas. See more details at link or video below.
