No accident Apocalypsis is the name of the third solo exhibition by artist Ernesto Boccara at the Art Gallery of the Unicamp Institute of Arts (IA), which will open on June 13th, at 12:30 pm. Apocalypsis it alludes to the visionary form of the narrative of the Apocalypse of John, the last book of the Bible that deals in a futuristic way with the “end of the world”. Boccara extends his oil paintings onto large canvases and displays his work in sculptures and drawings.
Three screens also have biblical themes, such as the Tower of Babel, the Flood and Adam and Eve in paradise, recorded in Genesis. Two others refer to archaic myths such as the birth of Venus. The recently painted canvas – Oxymoron – debuts in this exhibition and refers to the Wild fantasy.
Boccara identifies with the Visionary Art of the Vienna School, Austria, having prepared three sculptures modeled in clay and covered in resin paper and one in bronze.
On the 19th, at 14 pm, and on the 26th, at 9 am, there will be drawing sessions with a live model in the exhibition space, with a performance by actress Bruna Recchia, referenced in the figures in the paintings on the seven canvases. On June 22nd (Thursday), at 14 pm, Boccara will give a lecture addressing the theme “Fiction and painting”, aimed at postgraduate students and interested parties.
Boccara was born in Cairo, Egypt, and immigrated to Brazil during the Suez Canal War. He received academic training in Fine Arts, from the age of 11, at the Associação Paulista de Belas Artes.
