Unicamp will host on the 12th and 13th of June VI Meeting of the Peruvian Scientific Community in Brazil (CCP-BR). Held at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering (FEEC), the meeting is organized by community members in conjunction with the General Consulate of Peru in São Paulo, and aims to strengthen links between Peruvian researchers residing in Brazil. Approximately 60 professors and postgraduate students from different areas at Unicamp, USP, Unesp, UFABC and universities in other states participate in the meeting.
According to Professor Hugo Enrique Hernandez Figueroa, from the Communications Department at FEEC and representative of CCP-BR, around three thousand Peruvian scientists and researchers work in the Brazilian system of science, technology and innovation, with the majority settling in Brazil on account of own. “Our idea is to bring this community closer to scientists working in Peru, through projects and activities in a more organized way”, says professor Hugo Figueroa, organizer of the meeting. Another intention of CCP-BR is to facilitate the work of Brazilian teachers who wanted to develop projects in partnership with institutions in Peru.
Present at the meeting, the consul general of the Republic of Peru in São Paulo, Jorge Arturo Jarama Alván, assesses that the experience of researchers residing in Brazil can contribute to the development of science and technology in universities in his country. “These scientists can provide some type of advice and support for Peruvian institutions, sharing the advances that are developed in the Brazilian research system." In addition to supporting the meeting, the Consulate General of Peru in São Paulo works with the organization of cooperation agreements between Peruvian scientists and institutions such as Fapesp, CNPq and Brazilian universities.
