Mozambican writer Mia Couto will participate in the 50th anniversary program of the Institute of Biology (IB). The panel "Literature and Biology with Mia Couto" will take place on June 19th, starting at 14 pm, in auditorium 5 of the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FCM). The event will be shown live, on Unicamp TV Channel 2.

Winner of the 2013 Camões Prize and the 2014 Neustadt Prize, Mia Couto gained prominence in international literature with the publication of Terra Sonambula in 1992. This book was considered one of the ten best African novels of the 1995th century by a jury created by the XNUMX Zimbabwe Book Fair, and is part of the list of mandatory books for the Unicamp Entrance Exam. The last book published by Mia Couto was Shadows of the Water, launched in 2016 in Brazil by Cia. das Letras.

Biologist by training and journalist, Mia Couto worked after the end of the National Liberation War as a reporter for the Mozambique Information Agency and other vehicles, working in journalism until the mid-80s. University of Eduardo Mondlane, currently being a professor of ecology at this institution. Mia Couto is also the director of a company specializing in environmental impact assessments in Africa.
The program for Mia Couto's lecture will begin at 13:30 pm with a scenic intervention by the Student-Artist Program (Project 'Carcaças ou Corpos Nômades') and will also feature a presentation by the Presentação Coral Zíper na Boca at 15:30 pm, followed by a session of autographs. Editora Unicamp will promote the sale of the author's books during the event. The FCM auditorium is located at Rua Tessália Vieira de Camargo, 126, on the Unicamp campus in Barão Geraldo.
