A Unicamp Athletic League (LAU), formed by the University's 32 athletic teams, managed to stand out in several sports competitions throughout the year, bringing medals, trophies, prizes and prestige to the institution. At the University Games of the State of São Paulo of the São Paulo University Sports Federation (Fupe), LAU won gold in athletics (in the 100 meter dash) in the first stage of the Gold Series, with athlete Marcos Souza (from the Faculty of Physical Education (FEF); in table tennis Heitor Ferri (athlete from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering – FEM) took bronze in the men's individual Gold Series, with team gold in the women's Silver Series and team bronze in the men's Silver Series. In LAU chess, it was team gold and silver in the Diamond Series, and bronze in the Series Gold.
In the University Sports League - CBDU (Brazilian Confederation of University Sports), Unicamp won bronze in the men's individual karate with FEM athlete Bruno Assis. They also performed well in Kung FU Andrews S. Santos (IE), who won gold in the Men's Taijijian Combined; Tomás Freitas (IEL), who won silver in the Men's Taijijian Combined; and Ana C. Carvalho (IB), who won gold in the Women's Taijijian Combined. In the Brazilian Karate Championship, Bruno Assis (FEM) also won gold in the men's regional university category.

LAU organizes Unicamp's two biggest sports championships (the Olympics and Calouríadas) and promotes events for athletic teams, in addition to preparing Unicamp's national teams.
Imecc
Three teams from Unicamp, formed by undergraduate and postgraduate members from the Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Scientific Computing (Imecc), the “Gleb Wataghin” Institute of Physics (IFGW), the Faculty of Chemical Engineering (FEQ) and the Faculty of Electrical and of Computing (FEEC), achieved excellent placements in the 2017 Paulista University Chess Championship by teams, organized by the São Paulo University Sports Federation (Fupe). They ranked 1st and 2nd in the Diamond Series category (Fupe's main division) and 3rd place in the Gold Series. The teams were made up only of players participating in the Imecc chess group, who have weekly meetings on Wednesdays from 18 pm to 20 pm, in room 321. In addition to offering free basic and intermediate chess classes, the group also holds tournaments bimonthly chess events in the Imecc lobby. Trainings are open to all interested students.
