The Unicamp Family Planning Outpatient Clinic, linked to the “Prof. Dr. JA Pinotti” – Caism, invites women aged between 18 and 40, with tubal ligations or Copper IUD users, to voluntarily participate in research into the use of a new contraceptive medication. The project is entitled “Study to evaluate the suppression of ovulation after a single subcutaneous administration of several doses of depo-provera”, whose researcher is professor Luis Guillermo Bahamondes.
More than 40 million women use injectable contraceptives worldwide, with depo-provera (medroxyprogesterone acetate – DMPA) being the most popular, with action for at least three months when injected intramuscularly. Despite its wide and growing use, it has many side effects, including disorders such as bleeding, weight gain, metabolic effects and reduced bone density.
Further reduction of contraceptive dose remains an objective to reduce effects and increase acceptability. The idea of the study is to evaluate the quality of cervical mucus in women with imminent ovulation in the abdomen of reproductive age with a previous menstrual cycle with confirmed ovulation.
