Two exhibitions that portray cultures from different countries are ongoing at Unicamp until July 12th (Monday to Friday), from 9 am to 17 pm. They are “The Nacala Corridor: train, coal and people in northern Mozambique” and “South America, this unknown”, both open to the public.
The Nacala Corridor is a collective exhibition of photographers and researchers that takes place at the Unicamp Convention Center. It portrays photographs taken in Mozambique, a former Portuguese colony, which experienced post-war independence transformations, driven by the exploration of coal by large multinationals, including the Brazilian company Vale. In the scenario, there are constructions of large open-pit mines, new railway lines or modifications that prioritize cargo transport and some changes to the Zambezi River, transforming social relations and the culture of the local people.
Photographers Ana Esperança Jafete Gule, Eduardo Viana Vargas, Helena Santos Assunção, Patrick Arley de Rezende and Raul Lansky de Oliveira signed the exhibition, curated by Eduardo Viana Vargas.
South America
“South America, this unknown” is the theme of a collection of photographs by professor at the Institute of Chemistry (IQ) at Unicamp Marco Aurelio de Paoli. The records covered all of South America. He did not keep this material exclusively to himself. He is releasing it to interested parties. This is not a conventional exhibition, as De Paoli shows the public a South America unknown to many. His exhibition can be visited in the front of the Central Library "Cesar Lattes" (BCCL).
The exhibition, which has already visited the Unicamp Convention Center and the Faculty of Dentistry of Piracicaba (FOP), presents an immense continent, full of contrasts and landscapes. “In our travels through South America, by land or air, over the last 20 years, we have come to know places of captivating beauty or uniqueness. We have jungles, deserts, plains, highlands, immense lakes and rivers, salt flats, mountains, mountain ranges, glaciers, beaches of all types, an extremely varied fauna and flora and all types of people. Little on this continent is known or visited. Through this photographic record, I try to give a sample of these regions and try to highlight the beauty they show", emphasized Professor De Paoli.
