A microparticle composed of lemongrass and palmarosa essential oils that can be used as a nutritional additive to pig feed and that allows the control of diseases caused by enterobacteria has been granted a patent abroad and is reaching the North American and European market. The technology makes it possible to replace synthetic antimicrobials that are usually used as animal growth promoters.

Developed by researchers from the Multidisciplinary Center for Chemical, Biological and Agricultural Research (CPQBA) at Unicamp, the microparticle is a sustainable technology and developed naturally. In other words, it is an antimicrobial that, when added to feed, promotes the control of enteric diseases - such as post-weaning colibacillosis, among others, caused by bacteria present in animal feces -, in addition to providing improvement intestinal health, allowing the body to better absorb nutrients.
