On the 12th of this month in Campinas, at the age of 73, Unicamp Florência teacher Cecília Menegalli passed away. She was a full professor at the Faculty of Food Engineering (FEA) and, in recent years, worked as a collaborating professor at that faculty, since retiring in June 2014. Florência was Argentine, but lived a large part of her scientific career in Brazil.
He received his undergraduate degree and his doctorate in Chemical Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, between the 1960s and 1970s. He achieved three post-doctorates: from the Universidad de Huelva Escuela Politécnica (1999), from the Laboratoire de Genié Des Procédés de Pau (1997) and the University of Porto (2004). He has received several awards. In 2014 alone, there were three: the Capes Thesis in the area of Food Science and Technology from Capes, the Vale Capes Prize for Science and Sustainability (honorable mention), and the Pibic Scientific Merit Award.
FEA sent a note of condolences to the family, friends and Unicamp community. Professor Miriam Dupas Hubinger, a friend from the Food Engineering Department, said that Florência was a fighter, an enthusiastic and valued collaborator. "She was communicative and greatly enjoyed the relationship with her students, researchers and professors. Lately she supervised five postgraduate thesis projects. It was a great personal loss, for FEA and for Unicamp", she said.
