For the first time, two groups formed by students from the Unicamp Music course, Cabareto Early Jazz Band and Camerata Experimental, came together to present a concert. The show took place in the early afternoon of this Thursday (19), in the auditorium of the Institute of Arts (IA), with free entry. The space became too small to accommodate students, faculty and staff, as well as six guests. Some people had to sit on the floor. The initiative had the support of the University's Student Support Service (SAE).
Named “Jazz Orquestra”, the show promoted the meeting between classical music and big band jazz. According to Luca Alves, artistic director of Cabareto, the objective of the show was to pay homage to music, notably through the sounds provided by jazz. “For this reason, we chose a repertoire with songs that allowed the fusion between the sound universes of the two groups”, he explained.
According to Matheus Coelho, conductor of Camerata Experimental, some songs received special arrangements for the concert, which also featured the participation of six guests, including singers and instrumentalists: Gabriel Peregrino, Lucas Madi, Ber, Vanessa Costa, Camila Eseinmann and Graciela Soares. At one point, 26 artists occupied the stage simultaneously.
Df or just over an hour, the two groups and guests performed several jazz classics, such as Fly me to the moon, Cheek to cheek and Stardust. “There are only sugary sweets going on”, as a student who followed the concert with undisguised swagger and enthusiasm put it.
