To overcome the challenges of climate change to agricultural production, the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) and the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), with support from the São Paulo State Research Support Foundation (Fapesp) have just created the Center for Research in Genomics Applied to Climate Change (The Genomics for Climate Change Research Center – GCCRC).
The Center's mission is to develop biotechnological solutions using genomics, genetics and molecular biology techniques to adapt agricultural crops to high temperatures and water shortages. The GCCRC will be built with the expansion of the Mixed Research Unit in Genomics Applied to Climate Change (UMiP GenClima), which includes researchers, analysts, professors and technicians from Embrapa and Unicamp.
