Thanks to the agreement between Unicamp (State University of Campinas), Galileo - Parque Empresarial and the City Hall of Paulínia, the university's Scientific and Technological Park opened its doors this Monday (December 18), to its new space dedicated to business incubation. With the new 400 square meter area, located on the first floor of the Park Center, Incamp (Unicamp's Technology-Based Business Incubator) will gain 16 new vacancies for startups interested in the incubation process - which consists of monitoring new companies until its maturation phase -, up to ten of which will be destined for a joint incubation program, between Galileo, Unicamp and Paulínia City Hall. The initiative is unprecedented at the university. R$250 were invested to equip the site. Today, Incamp has the capacity to incubate up to 20 companies.
"The proximity to Unicamp is a differentiator for us, as it puts us in contact with the cutting-edge research that is developed at the university and with technology-based companies that are born in this ecosystem. Our focus is on the development of the region, attracting more companies here. We are in one of the best regions in the country to invest in high technology. And Galileo is prepared to be a space to house these companies", comments the director of Galileo - Technological and Business Park, Gilberto Zancaner Brito.
The objective is for the Unicamp Incubator to train and share good management practices so that an incubator can be installed in the Paulínia park in the future. There will be a specific notice for these companies interested in the incubation process.
"Diversifying the municipality's economic matrix is one of our main goals and, without a doubt, the inauguration of the Technology-Based Business Incubator is an important step towards achieving this objective. I emphasize that it is a great honor to have Unicamp as a partner in this challenge. By encouraging entrepreneurship, supporting innovative ideas and ensuring structure for them to develop, we generate opportunities for great ideas to become successful companies and, with this, our city can only benefit", says the mayor of Paulínia, Dixon Carvalho.
"With this project, developed through a partnership signed between the private sector, the City Hall and Unicamp, we began in Paulínia a process of developing culture and strengthening technology-based industries, ensuring all the necessary conditions and an environment conducive to the development of new and potential companies", adds Rui Rabelo, Secretary of Economic Development of Paulínia.
With 102 thousand inhabitants and a GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of R$ 12 billion, Paulínia currently has the petrochemical and logistics sectors as its economic matrix. According to City Hall, the intention with the partnership is to attract more technology-based companies.
"Paulínia is very close to Unicamp and has all the potential to keep up with the strength of this ecosystem that is consolidating in the Metropolitan Region of Campinas. Our region is the region of knowledge, thanks to the university center of excellence, the research centers and the attention given by the companies located here for innovation and entrepreneurship. This is quite a cradle to attract more technology-based companies and therefore, having more incubators, accelerators and structured technology parks is of paramount importance so that we can continue to grow and be a region of national reference", declares Professor Newton Frateschi, executive director of the Inova Unicamp Innovation Agency.
"For the Unicamp Scientific and Technological Park, this partnership is a milestone due to its originality and the impact it will have through supporting the structuring of more technology-based companies. With this, we can only grow and add even more value to this ecosystem unique", reinforces Eduardo Gurgel do Amaral, director of the Scientific and Technological Park at Unicamp.
Benefits for the University
"With the inauguration of this new floor, there are 16 new vacancies for technology-based companies in the Unicamp Scientific and Technological Park. Across the street, we have Vértice, with thirteen more startups. Not counting the other companies that already have their laboratories of R&D installed here, based on research agreements with Unicamp. For the university, these actions demonstrate the process of structuring the Scientific and Technological Park and give even more strength to our ecosystem. From now on, with the installation of the Park In Paulínia, we can say that we will compete when it comes to attracting companies, but this is very healthy for our region as a whole", assesses the dean of Unicamp, Professor Marcelo Knobel.
